Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones. Polish artist Artur Plachta stands out for his highly ironic and humorous creations of everyday scenes, which at times verge on the surreal.
Plachta's style draws inspiration from a naïve conception of artistic creation, characterized by a conscious yet instinctive simplification of subjects, aiming to restore the primary values of purity and simplicity in the representation, informed by a playful and ironic aesthetic. The artist's simplification of reality, however, embodies several creative elements, evident in the complexity of his drawing and his exploration of color. The most original aspect of Artur Plachta's artistic language lies in the fact that the cartoonish nature of his characters is contrasted with an impressionistic elaboration of the landscape.
Artur Plachta is a well-known painter born in Krakow, Poland. His unmistakable style balances realism and surrealism, expressed with irony and a creative, naive verve.
