Description of the work
Description of the work
In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.
Attilio Braglia is a painter who essentially uses a figurative language but seeks to transcend naturalism for expressive purposes. Thus, as in this work, phenomenal reality is forced to find a dimension more congenial to the artist's poetics. Thus, everything is squashed into the foreground and the composition's elements are compressed, almost crumpled, into a two-dimensional band. The various subjects are combined almost incoherently, as if in a collage. In this bizarre and expressionistic approach, we can find Attilio Braglia's most characteristic creative streak.
Attilio Braglia was born in Valleluciana di Carpineti in 1943 and lives and works in Reggio Emilia. From 1967 to 1977, he participated in several national and international exhibitions, receiving numerous awards. He has exhibited his work at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Pisa, the Galleria 8,75 Artecontemporanea in Reggio Emilia, and the Conestabo Gallery in Trieste. He has also participated in several art fairs, such as Immagina Arte in Fiera (Reggio Emilia) and ArtExpo (Arezzo).
