Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and pure colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images.
Attilio Gardino's process of abstracting phenomenal reality is based on various stylistic influences that compose the work's various components. A clear reference to biomorphic surrealism is evident, manifested in the thin line at the top of the structure. Within this organism, Gardino proposes a gestural application of blue, drawing on American Abstract Expressionism. In the middle section, however, the red base seems more in keeping with an informal poetics. Meanwhile, the lower section features an aquatic surface rendered with a synthetic, Expressionist-style exercise.
Attilio Gardino is a Piedmontese painter born in Turin in 1926. His artistic language can be defined as abstraction, in which the artist manages to bring together various elements typical of contemporary aesthetics.
