Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Amedeo Ruggiero subjects the perceptible world to a remarkable process of synthesis. His is a decidedly expressionist language that resolves itself in the reduction of the painted subjects to their very essence. Thus, the painter completely undermines perspective space and operates in a two-dimensional space where objects instinctively overlap. This instinctiveness is also evident in his pictorial approach, characterized by long, textured brushstrokes. The color palette is vibrant with hues with emotional and spiritual references.
Amedeo Ruggiero was born in Tunis in 1912 and died in Rome in 1986. In 1929, he fled Tunis and moved to France, where he lived between Nice and Paris and studied at the Ecole de Beaux Artes directed by Armand Vergeaud. His first exhibition was at the Galeries De La Rotonde. In 1939, Amedeo Ruggiero exhibited in Nice at the Palais De La Mediterranee. He later moved to Rome, where he remained for most of his life. His first exhibition in Italy took place in 1943 at the Salone del Mare Nostro in Milan, and in 1944, his first show in Rome was held at the Galleria La Campana.
