Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Vittorio Martin's style, in many of his works, consists of a reduction of reality to essential forms. Space becomes devoid of depth and two-dimensional. Thus, even the subjects completely lose their volume. Everything is determined by an interplay of interlocking shapes that create a vibrant polychrome. Vittorio Martin's work is undoubtedly strongly influenced by Cubist decompositions or the magical geometries of Paul Klee. However, the artist replaces the rationality of the latter with a more instinctive approach to delineating forms.
Painter, graphic designer, and poet, Vittorio Martin lives in Caneva (Pordenone). Self-taught and an excellent figurative artist, he began exhibiting in 1952, taking part in national and international competitions. His paintings have been shown not only in Italian cities such as Venice, Rome, Genoa, and Milan, but also in various foreign cities, including Athens, Paris, Bonn, Tokyo, and Krakow. He has received the most coveted academic awards from major national institutes of culture, literature, art, and science. His works are held in public institutions and private collections in Italy and abroad, and have been published in art journals and yearbooks, including his 2016 publication in Elite.
