This work depicts the typical clothing worn in the province of Teramo in the 19th century. Over the centuries, each area of ​​Abruzzo has developed its own traditional costumes, varying in fabrics, colors, and decorations, influenced by history, landscape, and local traditions. In many areas, the traditional costume is still worn at festivals, weddings, and popular celebrations, keeping the memory of these traditions alive.

The intent The purpose of the work is precisely to highlight the history of costume, so everything else is relegated to the background. The artist therefore creates neither background nor landscape; the only intention to give depth comes from the stones in the foreground and the work itself. For the rest, he focuses on the clothes, precisely defining the fabrics, the folds of the cloth, and the embroidery.

The work is unsigned, but based on its style, we can imagine the artist was active in the 19th century, a historical period in which many painters focused precisely on narrating the traditions of individual regions, which were seen as almost exotic in contrast to the life in large urban centers where even fashion began to develop in entirely new directions.
