Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones. Soon after, the Impressionists also gave great importance to the everyday, to everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenzy of the city, crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings. The subject of this work is precisely connected to this current.
The artist who created this painting draws on an Impressionist conception of pictorial technique. We see how the artist presents an elegant bourgeois/aristocratic subject, rendered with remarkable freshness and vivacity. Formally, this translates into a refined hatching technique, made up of large, dense strokes of color. In this way, the painting's surface captures all the luminous vibrations of the space in a composition of brilliant and dynamic chromaticism.
The artist who created this work adhered to an impressionistic style of art, with a prevalence of the expressive qualities of colour in compositions rich in executive freshness.
