These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones. In this case, the artist draws inspiration from the ethnic and folkloric allure of a character in traditional dress.

In this work, the artist demonstrates his openness to a synthetic language in which phenomenal reality is reconstructed through elegant stylization. Reality is thus transformed into a balanced system of lines and elongated volumes. The pictorial approach tends to be objective, aiming to exhaustively describe the costumes worn. The palette focuses on warm, brown tones.
