Description of the work
Description of the work
Russian Greek Orthodox icon. Synaxis of All Saints. Synaxis therefore alludes to the presence of a group of people (angels, saints, metropolitans, and monks) surrounding a central representation.
Our icon, from the Central Russian School, presumably dating back to the first half of the 19th century (perhaps the first half of the 18th century. Experts will have a hard time deciding) is painted in egg tempera on a gold background on a solid wooden panel.
It depicts the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament in the center, with figures of saints on both the right and left sides. Above, the figure of GOD THE FATHER dominates the head of the central saint. A small temple can be seen in the upper left, and a bell tower can be glimpsed in the upper right. The lower part of the icon features figures of metropolitans and monks.
Chrysography illuminates the draperies of the Saints' clothes and not of the metropolitans or monks.
Gold-leaf halos emphasize the sanctity of all gathered around the CENTRAL HOLY.
The icon is enclosed in a specially designed box for optimal conservation.
