The central theme of Rimini-born painter Irene Balducci's artistic production is superposition. This concept is developed in her work in a coherent unity between the formal and conceptual levels. Concretely and structurally, her paintings are multi-layered superimpositions: different layers of paint, collages above and below the paint, and gaps artfully left to reveal the underlying canvas, all converge in an iterative dialogue between figure and background. All of this is connected to a specific meaning: the painted subjects do not merely reflect their tangible appearance. The artist seeks to depict their entire existence, which is precisely constituted by the superimposition and coexistence of past and present.
