Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.
The artist's pictorial style is distinguished by the construction of the image through synthetic brushstrokes and dense color. The broad strokes create a vibrant image, full of vitality. Color, therefore, is the absolute protagonist in the painting's structure, harmoniously blended with the creation of a coherent, densely moist atmosphere.
The work was evidently executed by an artist who painted genre scenes inspired by the fin-de-siècle bourgeois world. His pictorial language is also in line with his favorite subjects, drawing inspiration from a post-impressionist style in the construction of the image.
