Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Light permeates the entire scene, and the artist is also capable, with a quicker brushstroke, of capturing all the luminous vibrations of the leaves or the surface of the lake. The work is also very balanced compositionally.

Battignana is an artist who demonstrates a high level of technical skill, based on an academic background. He remains faithful to a concept of art based on the imitation of nature and allows little subjectivity. His style, therefore, is highly realistic, yet shows some signs of idealization. His technique also yields to impressionistic hatching, especially when depicting the effect of light on objects.
