Description of the work
Description of the work
The painter presents us with a landscape rendered in a simple and immediate manner. The painting is divided into three horizontal bands: the first encompasses the fields, the second the farmhouses, and in the background, in the distance, we see mountains and the horizon. While in the lower part of the painting, the brushstrokes create an almost vortex, from the farmhouses onward the atmosphere becomes more static.
Mario Battistelli may be considered a local painter, but that doesn't mean his work loses its recognizability. He stands out for his highly expressive brushstrokes. With just a few precise brushstrokes, he creates his own vision of reality. He typically focuses on figurative painting, and this is true here as well. However, it must be said that he seems to bring into his cultural arsenal not only the teachings of his direct teachers, but also the experimentation of great artists of the early twentieth century. Cézanne's landscapes come first, also rendered with rapid brushstrokes and a preference for colors that appear almost diluted on the canvas. Here too, the palette features very light, not intensely pigmented colors, creating a harmonious whole.
Mario Battistelli is an artist from Sarteano. As a young man, he attended Don Manfredo Coltellini's art school. In 1983, he was chosen to paint the Palio di Sarteano. Most of his works are now privately owned. This artist's painting is distinguished by its immediacy. He manages to convey his vision of the world with just a few brushstrokes that nevertheless have a strong impact.
