Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Benito Monti's artistic language stems from a conception of plein air landscape painting. The brushstrokes are rapid and immediate, with impressionistic brushstrokes. The entire surface of the painting is bathed in a warm brown light, giving the work a unity. This chromatic palette reveals a certain connection with Lombard naturalism and the Chiaristi group.
Painter Benito Monti was born in Rome in 1933. He began exhibiting his work in 1970, both in Italy and abroad. Among his many awards, he received the Critics' Prize in Piacenza in 1978, the Venice Biennale Prize in 1988, and the Rome Quadriennale Prize. He has also worked in Israel and Spain.
