Description of the work
Description of the work
UT PICTURA POESIS. SELF-PORTRAIT OF THE SOUL When in 1933 Filippo Tommaso Martinetti dreamed up the Gulf Award, already in that dream of his he certainly sensed and predicted the arrival of Beppe Mecconi. The brilliant inventor of Futurism deplored the finite paucity of figurative texts and words written to sing its prodigious enchantment. And today an ideal connection in this regard seems to animate every work of Mecconi. He uses other people's words and paints their feelings. The chosen verses, certainly beloved, are those of whoever lived here, by birth or by voluntary choice, forever or only for a few hours, a few days at least, but also of those who have never really stopped here, if not in Mecconi's soul. To the poets, to them, with them and for them are Mecconi's paintings, which they reveal a sincere and impulsive love for this place and for poetry. Poetry read and listened to, which becomes an integral part of the finished work, not only because It is from this that it takes its starting point and stimulus, but precisely because it is stated in the painting, transcribed from the painter's hand, delivering its purest meaning. Dazibao of the soul, Mecconi's paintings become a conduit for a sensitive universe, where The world of ideas corresponds to the phenomenology of reality. And that's no small thing. The artist, the true artist, is given the rare opportunity to depict the essence of the world, to show the weight and dimension of imponderable, light and volatile feelings because they are made of immaterial and impalpable matter, like dreams. Looking at Mecconi's paintings is the most sincere invitation I feel like making today. Look and see, to listen to its colors and smell the words.
