The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge resulted in a total rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material with which they compose their works. Bernard Dreyfus uses a highly original form of pictorial expression that, through repetitive stylistic elements, offers a personal interpretation of the primordial paintings typical of Latin American cultures.

Bernard Dreyfus's informal art is essentially symbolic. His works are grounded in the mystical and esoteric allure of mysterious and incomprehensible symbols. Their incomprehensibility stems from a distance in time and space. The images, in fact, are derived from a reworking of the myths and symbols of pre-Columbian civilizations. The idea is to present graffiti or cave paintings of the Inca and Mayan peoples on canvas, in an iconic and abstract representation. Formally, this reworking is based on an informal aesthetic, or better yet, an expressionist and abstract one. In the decontextualized space of his works, Dreyfus presents his theories of symbols in a vibrant and concise manner.

Bernard Dreyfus is a French painter born in Managua in 1940. He has lived in France since 1968. He exhibits in the most prestigious public and private galleries around the world, from the José Luis Cuevas Museum in Mexico to the Sutton Gallery in New York, from the Maison de L'Amérique Latine in Paris to the Galerie Stemmle-Adler in Heidelberg (Germany), from the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Santiago de Chile to the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Panama. He has also exhibited at the Grand Palais in Paris, at the Museo del Periodismo y las Artes Gráficas in Guadalajara, and was invited as guest of honor to exhibit at the Bienal de Pintura in Nicaragua at the Fundación Ortíz-Gurdián in Nicaragua.
