Description of the work
Description of the work
Portraiture is one of the most widespread artistic expressions, especially in painting, but also in sculpture, throughout the ages. Portraiture is, first and foremost, a description of the subject depicted, an attempt to capture their physiognomy and individual characteristics truthfully and naturally. With the progressive evolution of artistic research, the physiognomic description of the subject has also been accompanied by a psychological one. Therefore, over the centuries, portraiture has also become a means of introspective investigation of the subject, their character, and their state of mind. The processes of abstraction brought about by contemporary art have contributed to this type of investigation.
Much of Bernardo Peruta's pictorial research concerns the human figure, but even more so the space that accommodates it. Indeed, many of his works are portraits, crafted with a perfectly naturalistic rendering of the subject and an almost hyperrealistic exaltation of its plastic qualities. Peruta's experimentation focuses primarily on the space of the work. For Peruta, space cannot be fixed on the canvas, as it is constantly evolving. For this reason, his work is extraordinarily dynamic, composed of overlapping layers of color. Everything appears mobile and in constant motion, and the concrete figure itself interacts with this evolving atmosphere. Furthermore, it should be emphasized that everything is executed with a truly exceptional painting technique that perfectly blends figuration and abstraction.
Bernardo Peruta was born in Italy in 1973. From 1992 to 1996, he attended the Castellini School of Plastic Arts in Como. He subsequently worked as a decorator and restorer in various churches. In 1997, he attended the studio of a renowned portrait artist, deepening his knowledge of oil painting. From 2004 to 2006, he moved to France, where he opened his own studio. His first exhibition took place in 2004, and since then, he has had solo and group exhibitions in Italy, France, Belgium, and Germany.
