Description of the work
Description of the work
A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject in the history of art. Since the fourteenth century, its presence has always been obligatory in battle scenes and equestrian monuments, and painters have always found it a challenge to depict it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering.
Artist Renato Bertoloni's aim is to offer a simplified interpretation of reality, seeking new values of purity in representation. For this reason, his approach to painting can be described as naïve, yet it is expressed through a highly classical and traditional approach. His language is essentially figurative and finds its broadest expression in the traditional genres of landscapes, still lifes, and animal depictions. However, the artist also manages to infuse tradition with his originality and personal touch, precisely through his pursuit of purity in representation that defines his style. Concretely, this is expressed in a fluid technique that resolves subjects with a few, quick but incisive strokes. In his exaltation of primary values, the simplification of objects serves to highlight their forms with a marked plasticity. Consistently, even from a chromatic perspective, the artist favors decidedly clear and pure tones.
Renato Bertoloni was a painter born in Busseto in 1924 and died in Milan in 1986. His paintings focused primarily on traditional genres such as landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes. He developed his own personal style, distinguished by the strength of his brushstrokes and the expressiveness of his colors.
