Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.
Artist Vito Brattoli's aim is to offer a simplified interpretation of reality, seeking new values of purity in representation. For this reason, his painting style can be described as naïve, yet expresses itself through a highly classical and traditional approach. His language, in fact, is essentially figurative. However, the artist manages to infuse tradition with his originality and personal touch, precisely through his pursuit of purity in representation that defines his style. Concretely, this is expressed in a fluid technique that resolves objects with a dense and concrete layering. Thus, even in simplicity and purity, Brattoli manages to enhance the formal values typical of still life. From a chromatic perspective, a palette of bright and vibrant colors prevails.
Vito Brattoli was born in Molfetta in 1950. He studied art at the State Art Institute and later graduated in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari. Since 1980, he has lived and worked in Milan, where he collaborates with leading artists and contemporary art galleries. He teaches Figure and Modeled Ornamentation at the Caravaggio Art School in Milan.
