Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this work, artist Bruna Secchi Costantini creates a landscape that can be fully described as expressionist. Phenomenal reality undergoes a remarkable formal synthesis, and the landscape is represented as a collection of chromatic zones. The composition is constructed by overlapping layers of paint that determine the space and volume of the objects. But above all, it is the choice of color that determines the expressionism of this painting. The cold, almost acidic tones do not reflect natural truth, but rather communicate an emotional state, a spiritual state.
Bruna Secchi Costantini was born in Trento in 1904. She lived for a time in Treviso and then moved with her husband, Celso Costantini, nephew of Cardinal Celso Costantini and Bishop Giovanni, to the family home in Murlis di Zoppola, where she passed away in 2001. In 1993, she joined the Zoppola Artists' Group, of which she was a longtime coordinator. Along with other members of her family, Bruna Secchi Costantini and her husband Celso, who passed away in 2007, donated numerous objects belonging to their famous uncle Celso to the Municipality. These were later included in the museum dedicated to their ancestor, established in the prelate's birthplace in Castions.
