Description of the work
Description of the work
The Florence depicted by the painter Silvio Brunetto provides a comprehensive account of the contemporary painting school of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The painter himself was a pupil of Marcello Boglione, a painter and engraver born in Pescara who was part of the XXV della Campagna Romana group, a group founded in 1904 by numerous artists whose vision aimed to create an artistic partnership without rules, hierarchies, or agendas, depicting countryside and pastoral scenes. He also founded the Evening School of Nude Paintings, founded by Felice Vellan, a master of landscape scenes. The influences of traditional Piedmontese landscape painters remain faithful to the teachings of post-19th-century realism, enlivened by the experiences of early 20th-century Divisionism.
Brunetto's Pointillist style emerges forcefully within the canvas. The technique relies precisely on the juxtaposition of pure yet distinct colors, allowing the image to be constructed through points of color and thus managing the modulation of light. Light itself becomes a central element, defining the pictorial composition and taking on symbolic significance. Silvio Brunetto offers us a refined painting that depicts a glimpse of a familiar Florence, full of color and light.
From his youth in Turin, where he enrolled in the figure drawing courses at the Scuole San Carlo and attended the life drawing courses at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts, to the numerous exhibitions and shows in which he participated, receiving national and international recognition. Brunetto demonstrated remarkable commitment to his artistic training, participating in exhibitions as early as 1953 and winning several awards, including the Premio al Trofeo Nazionale Gancia in Mango d'Alba and the Navetta d'Oro Città di Chieri Painting Award, EPT-Pro Moncalieri. His artistic career was enriched by a series of solo and group exhibitions at various galleries and art institutions, such as the Circolo degli Artisti and Galleria La Bottegaccia in Giaveno. Furthermore, Brunetto collaborated with Piedmontese writers to illustrate their book covers, contributing to works such as Pier Massimo Prosio's thriller "Natale al Castello" (Christmas at the Castle), published by Edizioni Fògola. His dedication and success in the artistic field are also highlighted by numerous solo exhibitions and participation in important artistic events over the years, confirming his significant role in the Italian art scene.
