Description of the work
Description of the work
The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material from which their works are composed.
Artist Bruno Antonazzo's style is clearly gestural Informel. He completely abandons form, allowing his perception and vision of the world to be expressed exclusively through the power of brushstrokes and color. His references to American Abstract Expressionism are evident, even in his adoption of highly specific techniques such as dripping. His brushstrokes are frenetic, arranged in rapid strokes or dense patches of material. The color consistently reflects this painter's strong expressionist nature, taking on aggressive hues that create strong contrasts on the canvas.
Bruno Antonazzo was born in Tivoli on June 24, 1943. After completing his education at the Salesian College in Rome, he began pursuing music and, in 1968, painting. His work has received considerable critical and public acclaim, leading him to exhibit his work in numerous shows in Italy and abroad. His paintings are held in important museums and public and private collections.
