Description of the work
Description of the work
Since the early Christian era, the face of Christ has been the object of special veneration. Its depiction has pervaded the entire history of Western art. From the first iconic representations of the early Christian and early Middle Ages, we gradually arrived at increasingly naturalistic (starting with the Renaissance) or realistic (typical of Flemish art) depictions.
This work is part of a series of compositions in which Bruno Cascella achieves a supremely naturalistic rendering even through the simple formal means of graphic line. Indeed, the artist needs only a simple, loose, and sinuous stroke to convey the fullness of the volumes onto the sheet and visually enhance the subject. This figure of Christ, created with a simple stroke of a black marker, finds its completeness in the elaborate rhythm of the line.
Painter Bruno Cascella was born in Pescara in 1919. His pictorial output is divided between works in which he uses a more classical and traditional language and others in which he displays a more pronounced experimentalism. Bruno Cascella has exhibited his work in numerous exhibitions, always garnering critical and public acclaim.
