Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is a clear example of an expressionist landscape. Reality is interpreted in an extremely synthetic manner, with an almost brutal reduction. The surface is completely two-dimensional, with no allowance for spatial depth. The brushstrokes delineate the forms in a very tormented and nervous manner. Color is used according to an emotional and spiritual interpretation, without any connection to reality.
Bruno Polver is a painter who has always favored an informal style in his artistic production. This series of tempera landscapes on paper, in which phenomenal reality is stripped down to its expressive essentials, also tends to approach that aesthetic. Indeed, nature, while still present in the form of trees and shrubs, is transformed into formless signs and gestural application of color. The color is dense and compact, still maintaining some connection with reality but reinterpreting it in strong hues that have a spiritual rather than naturalistic value.
Bruno Polver was a painter originally from Novara, born in 1932 and who passed away in 2017. He graduated from the Brera Academy in 1957. For many years, he taught art in Novara, Saluzzo, and Milan. In 1957, he began exhibiting his work, including in national exhibitions. His first solo exhibition was held in Verbania in 1960. He received important awards, including the Ramazzotti Prize, the Torre Pellice Prize, and the Mirò Prize in Barcelona.
