Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also becomes a way of interpreting reality, as it did for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi.
A painter of refined expressionism combined with rational compositional rigor, Bruno Saetti demonstrates his unique talents in this mixed-media still life. The artist works primarily on a two-dimensional surface, upon which he reconstructs a reality composed primarily of lines and colors. From this, one can see how, for Saetti, Expressionist synthesis is more valid for its geometric rigor than for its spiritual and emotional exaltation. Indeed, the painter completely empties the forms, reaching their essence of pure lines and forms, from which he can construct the pictorial composition.
Bruno Saetti was a Bolognese painter and printmaker, born in 1902 and died in 1984. In 1928, he participated for the first time in the Venice Biennale, where he returned fourteen more times. He also participated in various international exhibitions and held two important retrospective exhibitions, one in Venice in 1975 and the other in Florence in 1979. A painter characterized by a geometric compositional rigor combined with an expressionist synthesis, his favorite subjects were female nudes, landscapes, and still lifes.
