Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The style Bartazzoli developed in his work highlights a post-Impressionist maturity. The composition is entirely compressed into the foreground, without any allowance for spatial depth. The painter's aim is not to capture the sensory aspect of the view, but to capture its very essence, its substance. To this end, the brushstroke, rich in texture, intervenes, which, despite the essentiality of the representation, fleshes out the objects, breaking them down into different planes, recording the vibrations of light and life within them.
Cornelio Bertazzoli, Cremona 1936-2015, began painting at a very young age and was already recognized at the "Cultural Olympics in Rome" in 1950. In 1960, he was recognized at the "Gorizia Biennale" and in 1985, he was awarded the "Agrumello Prize." His works have been exhibited in many Italian cities.
