Description of the work
Description of the work
The iconography of motherhood is closely linked to the subject of the Madonna and Child. It is probably one of the most popular iconographies in the history of both Western and Eastern art. The Madonna and Child appears since the dawn of medieval painting and remained a constant subject as long as religious themes dominated artistic production (that is, until the 19th century, when themes inspired by everyday life began to be introduced). It is quite common for contemporary artists to treat the iconography of motherhood without directly linking it to the Christian religion.
The work is a typical composition on paper by Camillo Fait. These are entirely pictorial works, all playing on color and its expressive quality. Color is used lightly, diluted to create persuasive resonances between the subjects and the space in which they interact. The hues are light, filled with a crisp sunlight. Formally, the touch is rapid, rendering the forms immediately.
Camillo Fait is an artist born in Milan in 1935, where he lives and works. He initially trained under Aligi Sassu as a sculptor and ceramist, later moving on to graphic design. Only after attending the Augusto Colombo art school did he fully dedicate himself to painting. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and events, including those held internationally, receiving acclaim and recognition. His works are held in public and private collections in Italy, Finland, Portugal, the Netherlands, France, and Germany.
