Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Carlo Coppo's landscape painting is based on a quest for a naturalistic rendering of the view, through the skillful use of classical and traditional painting techniques. Coppo's style, in constructing his compositions, sometimes favors the role of color. This is evident in canvases where the landscape presents itself as a surface where various areas of color interact, leaving the hues to measure space and determine depth. In other works, however, a more defined drawing structure appears, in which the presence of an orthogonal perspective is also perceptible. The writing, in both cases, is always fluid and flowing, at times cursive, filled with a dense color that captures all the light and atmospheric vibrations of the landscape.

Carlo Coppo is a Novara-based artist specializing in landscape painting and still life. His style is deeply rooted in tradition and demonstrates an aspiration to achieve a fresh and immediate naturalism through the use of a highly pictorial approach inspired by Impressionism, but also through the more traditional means of drawing and perspective.
