The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, the crowds, the traffic, and typically bourgeois settings. Carlo Cordua preferred to draw inspiration from everyday life in the streets.

Carlo Cordua's landscapes consistently display excellent pictorial quality. The painter's aim is to faithfully represent the landscape or cityscape, while infusing it with a romantic mood. Therefore, the most striking characteristic, immediately apparent, is always a perfect naturalistic rendering. Every detail is precisely rendered by the artist in a composition that presents a harmonious perspective in which all the landscape elements are balanced. The artist's touch is extremely delicate in shading objects and merging them into space in a continuous play of tonal transitions that defines the space through the use of light. Compared to 19th-century Neapolitan painting and the Posillipo School, to which he clearly draws, Cordua, however, prefers a more objective perspective in his detailed, yet still lyrical, account of everyday life.

As we can see from his works, the artist Carlo Cordua drew on popular landscape and vedutism. His influences are in the Posillipo School, which he, however, interprets with a more objective vision, in a realist and narrative pictorial style.
