Description of the work
Description of the work
The iconography of motherhood is closely linked to the subject of the Madonna and Child. It is probably one of the most popular iconographies in the history of both Western and Eastern art. The Madonna and Child appears since the dawn of medieval painting and remained a constant subject as long as religious themes dominated artistic production (that is, until the 19th century, when themes inspired by everyday life began to be introduced). It is quite common for contemporary artists to treat the iconography of motherhood without directly linking it to the Christian religion.
In this work, artist Carlo Parisi demonstrates his skill in achieving a perfect naturalistic rendering with a highly elaborate technique. The extremely precise drawing captures every detail of the physiognomies, providing a highly detailed account of the faces. Using a soft touch, the artist highlights the volumes, highlighting them vividly. Finally, with lively hatching, he creates a complex interplay of shadows.
Carlo Parisi was a painter originally from Cava de' Tirreni, born in 1924. He lived for a long time in Milan, where he passed away in 2017. He collaborated with various publishing houses with his engravings and exhibited his paintings in many Italian and foreign cities. His awards include: Campidoglio d'Oro, Marc'Aurelio, the Golden Oak, Botticelli's Venus, Oscar Italia 1982, and the first prize of the City of Scandicci 1981.
