Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In the painting style of artist Carlo Rossini, color dominates the representation. Indeed, in a substantially two-dimensional space, the paint is applied in broad chromatic zones that, arranged on different planes, also acquire a structural value. The representation is thus extremely synthetic and expressive. The brushstrokes are dense with color, almost material, in their grayish tones of a dull twilight.
Carlo Rossini, the artist behind this painting, is an artist deeply influenced by post-Impressionist painting. His style is extremely concise and grounded in the expressive power of color. In 1955, Rossini co-founded the Association of Independent Painters of Varese. One of his works is exhibited at Masnago Castle.
