Carmen De Cerce - Still life

The painting presented here depicts a still life. Still lifes were already recognizable in Pompeii frescoes, but over the centuries they became an increasingly autonomous subject. Especially with the advent of Baroque painting, they became an important pictorial exercise in demonstrating the artist's ability to realistically capture nature. Only with the avant-garde did the same subject become adapted for pictorial exercises and the experimentation of new expressive poetics. In this case, we have a basket of fruit in the foreground, next to which is a rounded bottle with its lower part wrapped in wicker and a glass.

Carmen de Cerce's style is perfectly suited to 20th-century painting. It's a fast-paced and expressive style, with intuitive and spontaneous brushstrokes. She uses bright colors but limits her exploration of perspective, adding touches of light but without exploring the plasticity of the objects.

Carmen de Cerce is an artist and member of the Via Bagutta Painters' Association in Milan. Her career began in 1973 when she exhibited her works at the Art Fair on that street. She can be considered an artist's daughter, as her father, Bruno, was the creator and founder of the event. From the 1970s onward, De Cerce continued her pictorial explorations, working with oils, acrylics, and mixed media, as well as exploring multimedia experiments.
