Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. For Carpignani, landscape is characterized by a sort of sense of the sublime in the presence of nature, but in a more intimate version. This composition, too, is conceived as a large view in which the human presence, small and solitary, appears almost lost at the center of the work.
Carpignani's style, as we can see from this work, is founded on a keen sense of color and an immediate, cursive application of color. With just a few touches of color, the painter manages to construct his subjects, granting great immediacy to the landscape. It can therefore be said that Carpignani's stylistic register undoubtedly stems from a strong Impressionist influence, which, however, is taken to the extreme of immediacy and rapid execution. In this way, just like the Impressionists, Carpignani can capture the vibrations of light and atmosphere on objects, but, at the same time, he exerts a more accentuated synthesis of sensory data, achieving a highly lyrical representation of reality. Carpignani's palette respects this lyrical intimacy of nature and reality, adopting a chromaticism that avoids excess while remaining respectful of the sensory element.
Carpignani is an artist primarily focused on landscape painting, which he interprets with a very cursive and immediate technique, akin to post-impressionism. His underlying poetics are naturalism and realism, marked by an intimate lyricism and grounded in a synthesis of sensory data through color.
