Description of the work
Description of the work
The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Era, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.
In Francesco Casorati's artistic production, the perception of the world becomes a pure aesthetic pleasure. Reality is synthesized and altered in favor of geometric composition and linear rhythms. Everything is resolved in a decomposition of space according to multiple directives, into which the regular shapes of houses or other natural elements are inserted. Phenomenal reality is reduced to the bare minimum, exalting the plastic qualities of objects within a rationalist vision, which, however, is not as rigorous as it might seem. Indeed, we always notice a vibrant pop vein, especially in the distribution of color, made up of compact fields and bright, almost electric hues.
Francesco Casorati, Turin 1934-2013. His father, Felice Casorati, one of the greatest painters of the last century, passed on his passion to his son. A passion that would accompany him throughout his life, until his final moments. Francesco's gift culminated in his first exhibition in Milan in 1954, when he was just twenty years old. His resume also includes 24 years spent teaching at the Accademia Albertina in Turin.
