Description of the work
Description of the work
The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Era, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.
Cesare Andri is an artist in the finest tradition of plein-air landscape painting. His entire creative effort is directed toward a type of representation imbued with freshness and immediacy. For this reason, his pictorial style undoubtedly draws on Impressionist poetics. His rapid hatching is designed to capture all the chromatic and luminous vibrations of the specific situation he wishes to capture on the painting medium. His brushstrokes are therefore extremely fluid and rapid, and he outlines objects with a cursive touch.
Cesare Andri was a painter born in Milan in 1917 and died in Cervia in 1988. He was fundamentally a landscape painter rooted in the Impressionist and plein air painting tradition.
