Description of the work
Description of the work
A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject in the history of art. Since the fourteenth century, its presence has always been obligatory in battle scenes and equestrian monuments, and for painters, depicting it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering has always been a challenge. This work is part of a series of paintings by Cesare Ravasio dedicated to the figure of the horse in motion.
In Cesare Ravasio's works dedicated to the figure of the horse, the compositions are distinguished by a perfect balance between the naturalistic rendering of the subjects and a celebration of the animal's inherent dynamism. This dynamism is accentuated right from the composition, which features diagonal cuts or directional lines appropriate for depicting the horses' running. The subjects' bodies are plastically delineated, in the artist's typical hyperrealist style, structured by living matter. The artist's approach, however, is, as always, very rapid and complex, full of vibrations that enhance the speed and dynamism in a decidedly expressive manner.
Cesare Ravasio began his career as a painter at a very young age, training himself by studying 19th-century Italian and Spanish painters and the Lombard Scapigliatura movement. Over the course of his career, Cesare met many figures from the worlds of art, music, and literature, sharing periods of intense artistic work with them. His artistic commitment has led to commissions for works by museums, such as the Museo Pittore Pellizza da Volpedo, and other Italian museums, as well as private commissions. From 1996 to 2005, he taught drawing and painting courses in Bergamo. He has subsequently organized countless solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions.
