Description of the work
Description of the work
A unique work of art in its genre, both in style and composition. The artist inserts
color fields, arranged vertically as if they were strips, using a palette
of colors from turquoise to pink-lilac and from straw yellow to purple-blue
The main subject of the work is the Church of the Scalzi (so called because the custodians of the Church
are currently the Discalced Carmelite Fathers) or also called Santa Maria di Nazareth.
Even if the artist only hints at the facade of the Church, with flowing brushstrokes, he highlights
two orders of colonnades that make up the façade in late Venetian Baroque style. And it is good
remember that on the upper order in the central niche there is the Madonna with the child, in the
niche on the left the statue of Saint Catherine of Siena and on the right an empty niche where there was the
statue of St. Thomas Aquinas.
In the lower space you can notice the delicate sweetness of the lagoon water in which the facades are reflected.
of the buildings
The gondola that appears in the foreground, the mooring posts and three other gondolas delimit the
space: that of the surface of the water and that of the earth
