Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also became a means of interpreting reality. The subject of a vase of flowers is also quite recurrent in Antonietta Corsini's work, offering an extraordinary opportunity for naturalistic rendering and exquisite color harmonies.
Painter Antonietta Corsini has succeeded in elevating the watercolor technique to the highest levels of formal perfection. In her work, the precision of a naturalistic rendering faithful to the tangible elements combines with the lightness typical of diluted color. This can also be seen in her flower series, where the use of watercolor is so refined that, through an elegant interplay of colors, the forms of the flowers and the plasticity of the vases are rendered. The coexistence of different elements in a limited space allows the artist to maximize the aesthetic qualities of diluted color. Thus, the floral composition unfolds in a subtle interplay of glazes, semi-transparent harmonies, and tone-on-tone effects, creating a kaleidoscopic, luminous whole.
