Description of the work
Description of the work
The work has a marked expressionist vocation, which tends to emphasize the expression of emotions. Expressionist art seeks to proclaim its moods to the world and flaunt them with passion. Formally, this translates into a summary rendering of the figures, through a very nervous and animated line, as well as the use of a violent color palette. These characteristics are found in the historical avant-garde movements of expressionism: Fauvism and the Die Brucke movement in Germany.
In this painting, the painter Cinzio Cavallarin seems drawn to a more expressionist language. With a rough pictorial style and a crude application of color, he constructs his subjects. They are synthesized exclusively by brushstrokes, and their figures become almost abstract in the expressive vigor sought by the artist. The figures, generic, devoid of detail, decontextualized, gain in drama, precisely by virtue of this reduction based on an energetic and instinctive pictorial application.
Cinzio Cavallarin was born in 1942 in Chioggia, but lives and works in Prato. His artistic production draws on various influences from the contemporary avant-garde, from Abstraction to Cubism, from Informalism to Expressionism.
