Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Born into the artistic family of Carlo Domenici, one of the most important representatives of the Labronica School, Claudio da Firenze's pictorial language is also distinguished by the prevalence of color over line and a synthetic style of application that represents a reinterpretation of the Tuscan Macchiaioli tradition. In Claudio da Firenze's landscapes, therefore, we can appreciate how reality is reconstructed through patches of color that create a harmonious interplay of shapes and planes that interlock on the surface of the painting. The use of light, again through the tonal values of color, is fundamental and dramatic, in measuring spaces and distances and determining precise and unique atmospheric conditions.
Claudio Domenici was born in Florence in 1943. Born into an artistic family—his father, Carlo Domenici, was one of the most illustrious exponents of the 20th-century Labronica School. After attending the Florence Art Institute and the School of Graphic Arts, and pursuing an interest in advertising and graphic design, he began his career by participating with considerable success in his first exhibitions and competitions. Since 1968, he has participated in countless exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. Among the most notable are the solo shows from his Spanish period, held in Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, and Lloret de Mar; as well as those held in the United States, in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, at the Zantman Gallery in Palm Desert and Carmel, where Claudio's paintings are permanently exhibited; and finally in London and Lugano.
