Description of the work
Description of the work
During the 1950s and 1960s, the so-called poetics of the object began to spread in European and American art. Harking back to the readymade of Dadaist memory, a new wave of groups or movements emerged that repurposed everyday objects or discarded materials as works of art. The departure from traditional Dada lay in the strong influence of Abstract Expressionism, which led to the reconfiguration of objects with new languages and new stimuli. In this work, artist Claudio Viviani begins with a profound meditation on neo-Dadaist aesthetics, proposing a three-dimensional object as a work of art.
In a work like this, artist Claudio Viviani almost completely blurs the line between reality and representation. Indeed, as the attached certification informs us, the work actually contains charcoal. What we see before us is, therefore, a true object, elevated to a work of art in its very vividness. However, the artist's gesture remains in no way diminished; the three-dimensional shell is pictorially recontextualized, much like the objects created by Robert Rauschenberg or Jesper Johns. Unlike the latter, however, Claudio Viviani's gestures are expressed through an informal poetics composed of black chromatic areas and the mysterious, hermetic presence of numbers and letters.
Claudio Viviani was born in Donada in 1954. His artistic production is decidedly original, born from the encounter between the neo-Dadaist poetics of the object and a language that decisively harks back to the aesthetics of Informal Art.
