the true essence of the portrayed subject and communicate it on the canvas in a lively and
excited. For this reason, through the application of colour, he develops a high
synthesis process that transfigures the subjects into dense pictorial mixtures, in which
the protagonist is also the painter's emotion, transmitted through his
dynamic gestures. All these elements together constitute the power
expressionistic of Tafuri's pictorial style. In this extraordinary work is
the use of light.
Clemente Tafuri (Salerno, 1903 – Genoa, 1971) was a painter and
Italian illustrator. Grandson of the Salerno painter Raffaele Tafuri. After having
After completing a course of studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, he began to
painting, quickly coming to the attention of critics. Very well known among the
1920s and 1960s also as an advertising poster artist,
illustrator of postcards and book series, he often dedicated himself to illustrating
episodes of the Second World War and made a portrait of the then
Crown Prince Umberto II of Savoy and Queen Elena of Montenegro.
