Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a constant aspiration for painters. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Conti's landscape realism is so extreme that it paradoxically transfers the world he depicts into an almost metaphysical dimension. Indeed, we can see how the recording of sensory data, while precise, takes on a strongly minimalist character. There is a tendency to represent only the essentials of reality perceived by the senses. Formally, this translates into a plastic emptying of the subject. Space becomes practically two-dimensional, and things appear as fleeting visions. Compositionally, too, everything is marked by the simplicity of a few regular lines that construct the design.

As we can see from the analysis of this painting, the artist Conti stands out for his realistic conception of landscape, yet so minimal as to transfigure reality itself into metaphysics.
