The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material from which their works are composed.

The work is a beautiful example of the Informal art of artist Cristoforo Legname. The expressive power of the painting is entrusted to the paint, which is almost left free by the artist to create an autonomous entity on the canvas. Furthermore, the painting, in addition to drawing on an Informal aesthetic, also draws on other contemporary art trends, such as the "poetics of the object" or our own "Arte Povera." Indeed, the artist applies a series of found objects to the painting, recontextualizing them in a wholly original artistic operation.

Cristoforo Legname, a Florentine-trained painter, lived in Turin, where he worked for a long time at Fiat. However, his painting achieved some success. His style was influenced by a variety of styles, from Expressionism to Abstraction to Informalism.
