Description of the work
Description of the work
The style of artist Osvaldo Curandai is firmly rooted in the Post-Impressionist tradition. The painter was still firmly rooted in a plein air pictorial concept, whose goal was to create a vivid and immediate rendering of the landscape by capturing every vibration of light and atmosphere. However, this style already transcends the purely sensory, embracing a structural pictorial conception that explores objects in depth, placing brushstrokes on different dimensional planes within a non-uniform space. The dense and textured paint application is based on broad patches, respecting the rural spirit of the Macchiaioli tradition.
Osvaldo Curandai was born in Florence in 1931, but lived and worked in San Donato, between Bagno a Ripoli and Rignano sull'Arno, where he passed away in 2019. Curandai grew up in the Tuscan countryside, but he was not only a landscape painter, but also a skilled artist in compositions of flowers, fruit, and objects. The prestigious Buongiovanni Gallery in Bologna, which helped discover him, has promoted him as one of its leading artists. His works are held in galleries in Washington, D.C., Middleburg, Virginia, Saudi Arabia, and other European countries. He has held numerous exhibitions in Italy, including at the Palazzo Reale in Milan, Palazzo di Re Enzo in Bologna, and the Parma in Arte Museum. The most recent was held with the "G. Mazzon" Association, the Municipality of Bagno a Ripoli, and the Council of the Tuscany Region at the Oratory of Santa Caterina in Rimezzano.
