The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.

The style of the painter DA Caputi is essentially based on an expressive use of color. He is undoubtedly a realist painter, representing reality without filters or idealizations. However, his brushwork is vibrant and charged with vibrations, which are not only those of light on objects but also vibrations inherent to life, to existence. His brushstrokes are therefore vibrant, characterized by thick touches of color that also serve a structural function, exploring the volumes of the subjects within a complex surface.

Don Agostino Caputi, born in 1915 in Latiano, in the province of Brindisi, was a Cistercian monk from 1957. He trained as a painter under Marco Barberis in Rome and Ezio Moioli in Milan. His favorite subjects are canvases depicting natural scenes with forests, mountains, lakes, and sunsets, still lifes, and animal scenes. Recently, a room was dedicated to him in the Monastery of Santa Maria di Cotrino, in his hometown, displaying 36 of his works. The painter, who passed away in 2006, is thus still remembered and honored.
