Damy - Landscape Diptych

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Damy's landscapes are primarily based on the application of color, which the painter distributes in clear, almost pure tones. Formally, the application occurs in broad brushstrokes or compact areas that divide the work into horizontal bands of color. The absolute predominance of color makes the painting's surface two-dimensional, and in this context, Damy demonstrates a markedly synthetic approach. Objects are delineated with a few rapid strokes, and the form is reduced to the essential. Damy also displays a certain predilection for bright colors.
