Dan Breus - The Juggler

Since the 19th century, when painting began to explore various aspects of bourgeois life, the circus world has been a theme explored by various artists. During the 1970s and 1980s, it became a true genre, practiced by many painters, who focused their attention primarily on the figure of the clown.

In this masterly copy, Dan Breus faithfully reflects the artistic language of Marc Chagall, who should essentially be placed within Expressionism due to his desire to deform bodies for expressive purposes. Thus, in this figure of a juggler, we can note the unnatural elongation of the figure and a certain synthesis in the delineation of its forms. However, unlike the German Expressionists or the Fauves, Chagall always maintained a certain taste for form and never pushed the process of synthesis too far. His interest instead lies in the twisting of his figures, in their unnatural levitations. Here too, the figure performs an unnatural movement. Chagall found legitimacy for this movement in Cubism and its decomposition of space, which allowed him to represent the subject from multiple perspectives.

The silkscreen was created by Dan Breus, a renowned artist who reproduced famous works. His reproductions are always made using graphic techniques.
