The view painted here by Scottish artist Mackenzie depicts a glimpse of a body of water within a valley surrounded by high mountains. The naturalistic element that pervades the work leaves no room for humankind, who, despite everything, is not excluded from the painting but rather diminishes in its context. The subject remains very faithful to the typical English landscape painting style, which finds man contemplating the beauty and wonder of the landscape unfolding before him. The scientifically detailed panorama reveals the artist's desire to be as faithful as possible to the visual reality before him.  The pictorial style demonstrates the artist's skillful use of color appropriate to the scene. The realistic, almost scientific, naturalistic rendering is enhanced by the rigorous lighting within the painting, which leaves no room for agitated painting. Despite this, Mackenzie does not forgo a broad color palette, which, through very precise brushstrokes, makes the view pleasing and enchanting to the viewer. The linework is extremely accurate and studied. The author, Mackenzie Daniel, is a Scottish artist. According to the available documentation, he was a 19th-century landscape painter. His works are in the Glasgow Museum and the Museum of Victoria in Australia, as well as numerous other works in many private collections. No traces of his artistic career can be found.
