Daniele Girardi - The Magic Circle

In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.

All of Daniele Girardi's work is inspired by a spirituality born from the contemplation of wild nature. This applies to his installations and site-specific actions. But Girardi also manages to transfer this spirituality to his painting. With an extremely elaborate technique, he implements an evolution of the expressionist language: he forces the elements into an extreme synthesis within a composition of accentuated linearity and uses an aggressive color palette, disconnected from nature and grounded in symbolic values. Space is completely disrupted, and the entire composition spins in a whirlwind rhythm triggered by the central spiral.

Daniele Girardi (Verona, 1977) moved to Milan in 2000, and in 2006 participated in residencies in New York (ISCP) and San Francisco. In recent years, his interests have focused primarily on the relationship between experience and vision, resulting in the projects "I Road" in the Death Valley desert and "The Great Valley," a residency in Italy's largest wilderness area. His works are held in private and public collections, including the MACRO Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome and the Palazzo Forti Modern Art Gallery in Verona. He lives and works in Milan.
